President Trump has announced plans to assert greater federal control over Washington DC, as part of a sweeping crackdown on crime in the capital. The U.S. military is preparing to activate hundreds of National Guard troops in the district. The announcement follows the president’s threat to “exert my powers” to bring Washington under federal control, after an alleged attempted carjacking that injured a DOGE staff member.
